Habitat for Humanity Bermuda - The Application Process

IMPORTANT:

Please read this section carefully before completing an application. Failure to accurately follow the application procedure can result in a significant delay in the application process.

Phase I

Sponsorship from Church or Community Group - This is the first phase of the application process in which an existing community group, through its leadership, contacts Habitat Bermuda to begin the process on behalf of one of its members.

Each prospective family must be sponsored in this way to ensure that the support exists around the family to provide volunteer help with the construction or renovation phase of the project as well as providing ongoing moral support.

Phase II

Application by Church or Community Group - The group executive or the church leader or his/her designate fills out the Sponsorship Application Form which details the nature of the organization, the reason for making the referral and the nature of the volunteer help that they will be willing to provide throughout the project.

Phase III

Family Application - The sponsorship group works together with the family with consultation from Habitat Bermuda to fill out the Home Improvement Application Form. This application form will detail the needs, the ability to repay, and the nature of the project requirements.

Phase IV

Home Visit - Upon receipt of these completed forms, the Habitat Family Selection Committee is called upon to review the application and, if the family meets the general criteria, the committee or a representative will make an on-site visit to meet the family, assess the need and verify various aspects of the application.

Phase V

Selection Committee Meets - The Family Selection Committee meets to decide whether the necessary criteria have been met, including willingness to partner, ability to pay, and inadequate housing circumstances. Once a decision is made to proceed, the application is forwarded to the contractors and architects on the Site Selection Committee who will visit the premises and provide a detailed costing of the work that will be required.

Phase VI

Contract and Loan Agreement Drafted - Based on the estimate provided, the legal division will draft the contract associated with the repayment of the work that will be done.

This completes the application phase of the project and the renovation addition phase of the project can begin.
