Talcott Re opens office with charity donation

Talcott Re has marked the official opening of its office at 30 Woodbourne Avenue in Pembroke with a donation to charity.

The company, part of the Talcott Financial Group, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by Talcott leadership, to mark the opening of the nearly 10,000-square-foot office, on the corner of Woodbourne Avenue and Pitts Bay Road.

Sheelagh Cooper, chairwoman of Habitat for Humanity, accepted a charitable donation in the amount of $30,000 from the company to support Habitat’s work in creating a residential treatment centre for Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute long-term mental health patients.

Event raises more than $200,000 for treatment centre

More than $200,000 was raised for a project that will transform a former church rectory into a residential treatment centre.

​

Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda held Vegas in the Vaults as part of its efforts to help deliver accommodation for people with long-term mental health conditions.

​

The charity aims to raise about $600,000 towards the revitalisation of the former St James Church rectory in Sandys.

Reinsurance firm supporting treatment centre fundraiser

A reinsurance company has signed on as the lead sponsor of an event to raise funds for the transformation of a church rectory into a residential treatment centre.

Talcott Re is supporting Vegas in the Vaults, to be held at Agar’s Island on Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda aims to raise $600,000 towards the revitalisation of the former St James Church rectory in Sandys so that it can be used to help people with long-term mental health conditions.

Plans submitted to turn former rectory into residential care centre

May 12, 2023

Plans to convert a former church rectory into a residential treatment centre have been submitted to the Department of Planning.

The project, launched by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda along with the Anglican Church of Bermuda and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, would make interior renovations to turn the old St James Church rectory into a facility to provide around-the-clock care for patients with long-term mental health conditions.

The plans propose interior changes to create an additional three bedrooms in the historic five-bedroom building, convert a store to a study and replace wooden stairs.

Vegas-style party to raise money for new treatment centre

Partygoers can enjoy a Las Vegas-themed event on a private island to raise money for the transformation of a former church rectory into a residential treatment centre.

Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda is to renovate a building in Sandys so that it can be used to help people with long-term mental health conditions.

Sheelagh Cooper, the charity’s chairwoman, said: “The event is called Vegas in the Vaults.

Fundraising drive launched to turn old rectory into treatment centre

A fundraising drive was launched last week to help transform a former church rectory into a residential treatment centre.

​

Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda is working on the project with the Anglican Church of Bermuda and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.

​

After renovations are complete, the old St James Church rectory in Sandys will provide around-the-clock care for patients with long-term mental health conditions.

Habitat For Humanity Fundraiser Launch Held

The official launch of the fundraising drive for the latest big project by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda was recently held.

​

A spokesperson said, “Bacardi hosted the official launch of the fundraising drive for the latest big project by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda. The event was by invitation, and guests were treated to cocktails and drinks provided by Bacardi and delicious canapes plus a whole host of raffle prizes including original art, jewelry and spa days.

Furniture store lends helping hand to Habitat

January 17, 2023

A Pembroke store has teamed up with a charity to extend the life of unwanted second hand furniture.

Island Trading is supporting Habitat for Humanity Bermuda by collecting used items and donating them to the charity which helps families in need to build, and improve their homes.

​

As an example, Sonia Burgess, senior sales associate at Island Trading, recently helped a customer who purchased outdoor furniture from the store a decade ago, but had taken good care of it.

Renovations charity has record-breaking year

January 9, 2023

A record-breaking year for a renovations charity was capped with the restoration of a garage at a family home. Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda completed 24 projects in 2022, well above the target of 12 to 15 annually.

​

Its final undertaking of the year was at a home in Southampton where the garage roof had fallen in.
